I have five cats, all of which live with my ex partner Nina. Luckily we are still very good pals so I get to see them lots. We decided when we broke up that it was only fair for the cats that they should remain in their home and not be split up, since they are a small family.

Why I am a veggie
The quickest answer is that I am a veggie because I care. I value all sentient life. If it has the capacity to feel pain and fear then I feel we should try to ensure that we do not cause that suffering. For the same reason I am against racism, imperialism, and the arms trade. For me human rights and animal rights are linked. Studies have indicated that people who abuse animals are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against humans.
I have heard many meat eaters try to absolve themselves of blame for the deaths of the animals they eat. "They are already dead, if I don't eat them someone else will". This denies the reality of supply and demand. When you stop buying meat someone else doesnt come along and but up all the surplus that you didnt buy, as the argument suggests. What it means is that less meat is sold, however fractionally small this is. This fall in demand, if measured along with all the other people who are giving up meat (or at least buying less due to health concerns) leads directly to less supply - and less animals being raised and killed. That's what I want - a reduction in the sum total of pointless and painful deaths.
